Philodendron Fuzzy Petiole
There are SO many things to love about the Philodendron Fuzzy Petiole (Philodendron Nangaritense).
When I finally saw one of these plants in person, I was SHOCKED at the size of the foliage. The leaves can get to be 12in big, but a lot of photos that I had seen online made them seem like they were just a slightly larger micans…boy was I wrong. They have velvety leaves that are more than ten times larger than the micans. PLUS, they are beautifully sculpted like a lily pad, making them feel ever so enchanted.
The feature that gives this plant their name is their fuzzy petioles (these are the part of the plant that attaches the leaf to the stem). In combination with their velvet leaves, this plant is an explosion of texture, making them very fun to interact with.
Plant Care
Light Requirements: These gorgeous plants thrive in indirect or filtered bright light. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight, as it may scorch the leaves and hinder their growth.
Temperature and Humidity: Keeping the temperature between 65°F and 80°F (18°C and 27°C) with high humidity levels ranging between 60% and 70% will create an ideal environment for this plant
Watering: Allow the soil to dry partially between each watering to prevent overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Make sure to provide adequate drainage to avoid waterlogged conditions.
Soil and Fertilizer: Well-draining, rich, and organic soil will provide the best medium for the plant's growth. A balanced liquid fertilizer once every four to six weeks during the growing season will assist in supporting its health.
Propagation: Can be propagated through stem cuttings, which can root in water or a well-draining soil mix.
